African feminisms
Professor Desiree Lewis of the Women & Gender Studies Department at University of the Western Cape gave a talk on “African feminisms” at the 'African Psychology, African Feminisms, African Studies, Black Psychology, Black Studies and Black Feminisms Break Bread Symposium' on 8 June 2018 at UCT. Prof. Lewis is known for her active contribution in developing feminist intellectual activist networks in Africa. Her presentation emphasized that African Feminist Psychology, despite its homogeneity, can be seen as a discipline that counters and addresses gaps in knowledge that matters. The symposium was co-hosted by the Hub, the Transdisciplinary African Psychologies Programme Institute for Social and Health Sciences (ISHS) at the University of South Africa (UNISA), the UNISA Research Unit on Men and Masculinities at ISHS, and the Violence, Injury and Peace Research Unit at the South African Medical Research Council.
